Beginning with You
When you think about a job interview, what’s the first feeling that comes to mind?
Excitement? Nervousness? Maybe a bit of both?
Most of us have been there – picturing the questions, wondering what to say and hoping we come across perfect.
It can feel like a lot to handle, even when you know you’re capable. This course is here to take that weight off your shoulders and help you approach your job interview with a calmer, clearer mind.
Why Mindset Matters
Your mindset shapes your interview experience more than you might realize.
If you go in thinking, “I have to be perfect,” you’ll likely feel tense, over-rehearsed and easily thrown off by surprises.
If you instead approach it as, “This is a conversation to see if we’re a good fit,” you’ll naturally feel more at ease and able to show your real strengths.
A Quick Mental Reframe
Before you start preparing answers, try this quick mental reframe:
From: “They’re judging me.”
To: “We’re meeting to see if we’re a good match.”
Every time you feel a wave of nerves while preparing, pause and say that reframe to yourself.
It reminds you that you’re assessing them as much as they’re assessing you.
Another Practical Mindset Habit
Before you start to prepare for any job interview, write down three things that you’re genuinely proud of. These can be skills, qualities or experiences.
If you have no prior job experience, try to draw these from your educational background or even extracurricular activities, such as hobby clubs.
Keep this list nearby as you move through the course, you can refer to it if you feel uncertain about what you have to offer.
